MisCon 23 Gaming Autumn Game Fair Photos

Gaming at MisCon 23 should be very good. We have double last yearÂ’s tables, and GMÂ’s have begun to announce their games, including returning favorites.

MisCon would like to start keeping better records. This includes keep track of volunteered hours. If you are planning on running games at MisCon 23 please fill out the Volunteer form on the Volunteers page. If you check only Gaming, it is assumed your hours are scheduled. Though we hope you take an interest in other departments as well.

Please contact gamechair@miscon.org with games you want to run at MisCon 23 early enough for us to promote your game on the Gaming web page. Early sign up gives you more choice of times and tables, as well as giving us time to try to get support for your game.

A lot of people seem to be having difficulty with transportation to the con. If you need a ride, can offer a ride, or just want to have some company and save some money check out Rides to MisCon under Announcements in the MisCon forums. The first response offered a ride (from Helena). How cool is that?

Gaming Preregistration Online

Members who are preregistered for MisCon 23 may preregister for two games, plus as an auxiliary for one game.

If those preregistered members are also prescheduled to run games, they may sign up for one additional game, and as an auxiliary for one additional game. For a total of three prescheduled seats, and two auxiliary seats.

Preregistration for games may not fill more than half of the available seats for a game.

It is a little late in the year to be developing a system for gaming preregistration for the website, so we are going to use a low tech system this year.

If you are preregistered for MisCon 23, and would like to preregister for games, send an email to gamechair@miscon.org stating which games you would like to sign up for, and any questions you may have about the games. We will verify your registration and the availability of seats in the games. We will then preregister you for the games and send you an email verifying that you are signed up for the games.

Do NOT Bring Your Computers

There Will be NOT Be a LAN at MisCon 23

Unfortunately, we did have enough people willing to loan their computers to make a LAN at MisCon 23 viable.
It would nice to have a LAN at MisCon, so we'll start working on one earlier for next year.

Greg Schneider will be returning to run the next Installment of his DD 3.5 World of Midnight game 'Dawn' and an Epic RPG (adults only) game 'House of Sin'.

Benjamin Donnelly will be returning with his 'Destroy UM' Classic BattleTech game, along with another Classic BattleTech game. Mechs provided.

Jason Holt will be running Space Alert.

IlluminatiRob McDonell returns with Chez Geek, Grunt Grunt, X-Bugs, Greed Quest, Ninja Burger, Munchkin Classic, and Battlecards.

Under Fire Media LLC will be demoing it's new card game Ethos.

Keith Seyffarth returns with an Amber the Diceless Role Playing Game event 'Amber Throne War' and a Shadow Run 2nd Edition one shot 'Panty Raid'.

Scott Kane will be returning with his Munchkin Deluxe game and Risk 2010 A.D..

Loretta Kane will be running Avalon Hill's Acquire, Robo Rally and Rocketville.

Nick Christen will be running a Warhammer Naval battle. Navies provided.

Henry Edwards will be running a MechWarrior Clix tournament 'Assault the Drop Ship', Dreamblades, Dungeons & Dragons 4E Miniatures, HeroClix, Star Wars Miniatures, and a HorrorClix battle, 'Freakshow Vs Cthulhu!'.

James McGahee will be running Grim.

John Bromley will be running Judge Dread and Deadlands Reloaded.

CthulhuBob will be Launching Frag Gold.

It is rumored CthulhuBob will be running one or more games of Illuminati. We can neither confnord nor deny this rumor.

Worldwide D&D Game Day

MisCon will be running Wizard's of the Coast's 'Journey Through the Silver Caves' for Worldwide D&D Game Day this year.

A kobold wyrmpriest has stolen an ancient book of prophecy from the people of Albura, a fortress on the borderlands.
The kobold has a dark plan for the book-and only you can stop herin time!

This event will be run multiple times throughout the con.

Players get to keep the miniature for their pre-generated character.
DM's get the adventure, poster maps and all of the monster miniatures.

This is a 1500 point tournament (with standard Force Organizational Chart).
Each player will be placed on the table facing up to five other opponents. Alliances can be made, but will need to be broken to win this Free-for-All!

This is harder than 'Ard Boyz!
Painting will count and gain your army additional prestige in the tournament.
Sportsmanship will count as we don't want no Gitz!

You will need to have your army at the table at 10AM Saturday morning for judging and shooting starts at 11AM sharp! Bring your lists, your tools, your models, and your strategy, to be the LAST MAN STANDING!

Sanity Points

MisCon is MontanaÂ’s longest running Science Fiction convention, but the region has been blessed with several great cons. In support of our fellow cons in the four part TriCon (hey they write four part trilogies) MisCon is introducing Sanity Points.

Anyone bringing their badge from the last MisCon, RadCon, Montana Game Faire or SpoCon will receive one Sanity Point for each con they have attended.

Players can spend their Sanity Points (giving the chip to the GM) at games to modify die rolls.

The GM at each table will decide on the modifier, or if they allow Sanity Points.

We plan to encourage GM's to allow Sanity Points by buying them from GM's.
4 Sanity Points =$1 Cthulhu Cash.
Enough to get a couple of sodas at Hospitality.

Warlord Tournament:
Bring your 1200 point armies and prepare for some good clean bloody battles at MisCon 23Â’s Warlord Tourney. We will be using the Rage Chronicles 2008 (available for free download at www.reapergames.com). There will be a 3 rounds with the winner being determined by total points, thatÂ’s right no single or double elimination, everyone gets to play all 3 rounds. Wonderful Prizes will be awarded (including the now traditional 1st place Dragon).

And, for the first time this year!

A full Dungeon, with monsters, treasures and maybe even some damsels/dandies in distress to rescue!

What if the zombie apocalypse was coming? What if you could experience it today? Would you survive?

Join Zombie Buddy Productions in their Live Action Survival Horror game: RISING. Imagine a post-zombie-apocalyptic world where it's kill or be killed. Your wits are tested at every turn, while you're also solving puzzles, avoid traps, and slaying zombies. Your only goal is to still be alive and infection-free at the end of the day... even if you have to use your best friend as bait.

RISING L.A.S.H is a game that uses boffer swords and foam dart guns. Your only limitation is YOU. Rules are taught to all players, props provided, and you have the opportunity of leveling your character. Don't worry, living and non-living all walk away with prizes just for playing.

Sandbagger's Game Club

The Sandbaggers Game Club of Great Falls, MT will be at MisCon again this year.

We will be hosting misc. board/card/war/rpg games Friday thru Monday in room 260, anyone attending the con is welcome to check us out, the door will be open. We will be awarding T-shirts and prizes (dice trays) and providing refreshments the entire weekend. We will also be hosting two parties. The usual Saturday night party and a Sunday night pary for the convention volunteers and attending pros.

Scott Readicker of the Sandbaggers will run a Paranoia RPG game Friday night, and a Toon RPG Saturday night.

Special Sandbaggers' guest (flown in from parts unknown) Tony Ridlon will run a wonderful game of Descent, Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm.

The Sandbaggers Game Club will be celebrating their 20th Year Anniversary with a Bash on Oct 31st of this year!

Edgar Lincoln, AKA Redishbeard Scourge of the INW Seas returns to remind us that even the ‘seas’ of the Inland Northwest are not safe from pirates.
Class 2 boats provided, but you can bring what you have.

Edgar may also run a Settlers of Catan pickup game either Fri or Sat night. People interested in playing should look him up and you can work out a time.


SpeilKnights of Missoula will be running games at MisCon again this year.

SpielKnights Game Club will be running Die Kutschfahrt zur Teufelsburg (Coach ride to Devil's Castle), and PitchCar.

They will also be running a DD 4 adventure 'Nature's Wrath'

and they will be demoing games for Buceplalus Games; including Living Labyrinth, Rorschach and Toboggans of Doom.

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming to publish products under PaizoÂ’s Pathfinder Compatibility License

Release Date - March 21, 2009

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming announced today its intentions to publish tabletop fantasy roleplaying game books and supplements under the terms of the Open Gaming License (OGL) from Wizards of the Coast and the Pathfinder Compatibility License from Paizo.

"The Pathfinder Compatibility License is a great opportunity for us," said 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-owner Robert Thomson. "The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game from Paizo is being published under the OGL, continuing the legacy of the 3.5 version of the worldÂ’s most popular roleplaying game in new and interesting ways. Our books will add options and new material to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and help that legacy continue to grow well into the future."

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-owner Connie Thomson said, "The Pathfinder Compatibility License means we will be able to market our products created for use with the upcoming Pathfinder Roleplaying Game with the Pathfinder Compatibility logo on the covers, which will bring more visibility to our products, and give others playing the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game new options for their own games."

Your task will be simple; go to eastern Washington and stop and ancient evil.

Play cartoon characters out after a "foogle bird" (or two) for a slunky load of cash. YouÂ’ll need to fend of other players, and the slight obstacle that doing so is illegal.

The weyrwoman (female co-leader of an army of teleporting dragons defending the planet against waves of "thread") has been poisoned! You need to find out who did it and why, while someone is seeing to it that nosy people disappear or have ‘accidents’.

TinkerÂ’s Damn

Play characters flying surplus WWII planes in an air race around the world, while poking around nearby locations for parts for their planes and treasure, and getting themselves, and the other characters, into and out of trouble...

'High Ground'

Superstition says its bad luck to have women on ships. You and your Talisman crew-mates would have to agree, especially since Captain ‘Lucky’ Lynda seems to draw her luck directly from her crew. But her luck truly is extraordinary. You’ve never been on a more successful ship, successful enough to make up for a few ‘mishaps’.

But now Bosun One-Ear Eric, Cecil the Cyclops, Harry the Hook, Peg Leg Pete, Tongueless Treme and, the ‘prisoner’, Lieutenant Richard Higgins have until high-tide to get the captain back or the Talisman’s luck might just have run out.

The world has never been a safe place. Bastions of civilization populate a dark, menacing world -- islands of order and reason exist in a land otherwise overrun by dark cults, vile monsters, creatures from the dark edges of the imagination, and worse. As deadly as the world is on a normal day, something has begun to stir on the fringes of the civilized Elsir Vale. Formerly the site of an attack by an army known as the Red Hand, the Vale has known several years of peace since brave adventurers stormed into the teeth of the approaching Hand and send them scurrying back into the darkness.

The party has been hired to protect an agricultural community from local savages who are now being equipped with modern weapons and have started raiding the settlements.
The party members must protect the settlements and try and find out who is supplying the natives with weapons and why.


D&D 3.5, The World of Midnight

The first crack in the dimensions that holds out the gods of light has been made and the world of Midnight will never be the same. But can the word of the resurgence of the gods of light be known, or will the forces of darkness crush it? Once again the chosen of the Witch Queen will face the Evils of Midnight to bring word to the Elves and the Dwarves that hope remains. But they discover something on their journey that will change them - and their lives - forever.

Time: Four hours

'House of Sin'

The House of Scarlet & Lace has had some good years of late, and is starting to be known throughout the great city as the best classy whore house around. But such things don't come without a price - and Madame Scarlet is about to have her past come back to haunt her - in the form of a demon army bent on collecting some of those promised souls. It will be a long night for those lovely courtesans and the Madame. It doesn't look like anyone will be rushing in to help - so they had better help themselves. A fast paced role-playing heavy, combat heavy survival action game.

Time: Four Hours

Players: 6 Players who are role-playing first and after group fun as a whole, as well as being willing to play female characters that are whores (or be upset at other players playing female character that are whores. . .)

18+ on this one. (Duh.)

This is going to be a demonstration of the new starfighter combat rules in the Star Wars Saga Edition.

Players will have a chose of three starfighter types. Six of the venerable Y-wings, four powerful X-wings, and two of the brand new A-wings starfighters.

The objective will be to attack and destroy an Imperial transport carrying supplies to a damaged Imperial Star Destroyers.

Saganami Island: Saganami Island Tatical Simulator (SITS) is realistic 3-D space combat with an Age of Sail feel. Based duing the opening phases of the First Manticoran-Havenite War, SITS allows you to be "the master/mistress after god" on ships ranging from destroyers to the massive Superdreadnoughts, throwing broadsides of missiles at long-range, and "kissing" distance energy weapons.

Space Alert

Would you like to be among the brave heroes who sacrifice risk their lives in service to their galaxy? Then join the Space Cadets! At Space Alert Academy, you'll learn how to defend a Sitting Duck Class star ship from meteors, cryoshield frigates, and space crabs. A brief rewarding career awaits.

Space Alert is a cooperative board game. Players plan their actions in real time in response to a sound track. At the end of ten intense minutes, all actions are revealed, and the crew discovers whether the mission ends with a jump to hyperspace or just a big explosion.

Space Cadet ranks can be earned by completing missions. These ranks will carry over to the Montana Game Faire in Helena in October.

'Amber Throne War'

It's a throne war!
The king (your father) has died.
Unfortunately, he died without a clear successor.
As you and your siblings (or at least half-siblings) really don't know the order of your conception - or birth - you all have an equal claim on the throne.
Actually, correct that, all your siblings are undeserving, pretentious, self-serving, arrogant, incompetent scum, so it's clear that the throne is yours. Really, now, would dear old dad have meant for anyone like that to take the throne on his demise? Since you're the only member of the family with a grain of common sense or human decency (well, at least Amberite decency), it's obvious you were meant to be the successor. The throne is yours - if you can take it!
You need to push, pull, bribe, fight, outwit, deceive, align, surpass, kill, or whatever else it takes, to get the badges of office and get yourself coronated before one of your blood relatives defiles the throne with his or her filthy person. Remember, they're as tough or tougher than you, as cunning or more cunning than you, as fast orn faster than you, and they all have this internal drive to seize power and rule over the universe that you do.
Unfortunately, your siblings all have the same idea!
We'll start with a bidding war and character generation, then degenerate into the chaos that is Amber until such time as we pass out or someone takes the throne.

Note-This game will be a tabletop RPG, not a LARP, this year.

(Coach ride to Devil's Castle)

All players are passengers within a carriage that is rushing to Devil's Castle. They each act as a member of a secret association, but no one knows who is friend and who is foe.

Each player starts in one of two secret associations. He also gets a secret profession with a special ability. So at the beginning of the game you have no information about the membership and the professions of the others. To win the game, each association has to collect 3 defined artifacts jointly. Therefore you have to find out who your allies are and where to find the artifacts among the other secret objects that are in possession of other players. You can get this information during the game either by trading objects with other players, because every object has a special ability, e.g. "Trade it in and you may take a look at your trading partners-association." or by struggling with other players, because the winner of a struggle can view the cards of the underdog and steal one of them. But be careful, all players can support the attacker OR defender in a struggle. If they know about your identity but you don't know theirs it may be risky to struggle.

The association that has collected their 3 artifacts first, wins.

The game has a special atmosphere, because you never know if somebody is faithfully supporting you or if he only pretends to be your friend.
