You might be asking yourself this question whether you're self published or going the traditional route. If you need one, what kind of editor do you need? How do you know when you're ready for an editor? There are lots of different kinds of editors, how do you know which one is the right one for you at what stage in the process?

Padme, Princess Leia, Rey, Jyn Urso: the women of Star Wars kick ass. Don't they? Let's discuss the roles these protagonists play. How are they different from the leading men in their respective stories? Does Star Wars do a better job than most franchises at portraying women as characters and not just plot devices? How?

Join us for MisCon's fourth annual First Page Idol! Here's how it works: Hand in the first page of your story or book at the start of the panel. Pages will be randomly chosen and read out loud. Our panelists will indicate when, had the submission come across their desk, they'd stop reading and tell us why. Submissions will be anonymous and will not be returned. (All submissions may not be read).

  • panel Sat 6:00 - 6:50 PM, Independent-Publishing Done Right, Dragon Pavilion (1)
Panelists: Ann Gimpel, Andrea Howe, D.L Solum

When people hear you're a writer, they often ask why you don't self-publish. Little do they know how hard it can be to do it right. In this panel we'll hear from some authors and editors who know what it takes to make a living self-publishing.
