Well, with good things, comes bad tidings.

Today, a beloved author has succumbed to cancer. Crichton, well known for many famous novels, such as Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain, Timeline, and State of Fear, has passed away today.

Jurassic Park was such a great book. I read once that Crichton would spend 3-4 months researching a novel then 3 months writing the first draft. I wish I was that fast/prolific . . .

'The Lost World' and Crichton

Postby Lady_Tailisyn » Sat Dec 06, 2008 1:59 am

This is going to age me, but I remember vividly reading the sequel to Jurrassic Park, 'The Lost World,' in the seventh grade. My English teacher at the time insisted. We read it aloud as a class and then went to see the the premiere of the movie. I think that was really my first "read a book, then see the movie adaptation," experience. I was pleased with the book, and impressed (if not satisfied) with the movie. That's usually how it goes.

His book sticks in my mind to this day, and he'll be missed. 2008 has been a bad year for creative loses.. and it's sad to count Crichton among them.
