William Parrish

MisCon 36 Panel Volunteer

William Parrish is a Montana native who has been tabletop gaming for longer than he'd care to admit. He draws upon a wide ranging past, from graveyard work at gas stations to tracking down fugitives, to offer a unique perspective and style through his storytelling. As a player or gamemaster, noob or expert, tabletop card/board/roleplaying games are his addiction.

(Tentative)

  • moderator Fri 3:00 - 3:50 PM, Memorable NPCs, Scenes, & Fights, Rocket Tent (1)
Moderator: William Parrish; Panelists: Colton Blomker, JC Cote, William Parrish, Margaret Persico

Join in a discussion with experienced campaign gamemasters on how to make your games memorable beyond the joy of rolling a critical hit. Easy yet vibrant NPCs, describing scenes of all sorts, and how to avoided the dreaded “take turns whacking each other until someone falls” trap of fight storytelling.

  • Break Fri 3:50 - Sat Noon
  • moderator Sat Noon - 12:50 PM, House Rules: The Good, The Bad, & the Ugly, Monster Tent (1)
Moderator: William Parrish; Panelists: Brian Alterowitz, JC Cote, William Parrish, Margaret Persico

What gamemaster hasn’t had the urge to just tinker with a game system just a little bit? What player hasn’t been delighted, or horrified, by house rules that change the dynamics of a game system? Come talk about game balance, problem solving, problem making, and how to pull it all together when creating a house rule. Bring some examples of the best and worst you’ve seen!

  • Break Sat 12:50 - Sun Noon
  • moderator Sun Noon - 12:50 PM, Adventure Design: One Shots to Campaigns, Rocket Tent (1)
Moderator: William Parrish; Panelists: Brian Alterowitz, Colton Blomker, William Parrish

Writing adventures is the heart of gamemastering, but it can also cause a complete system lock. Whether you are preparing a one shot for friends, an adventure for convention play, or you are finally ready to write that 2 year campaign of doom, this panel will hopefully be full of tips and techniques from both the panelists and attendees on how to have more fun and success with adventure writing.

  • Break Sun 12:50 - Mon 11:00
  • moderator Mon 11:00 - 11:50 AM, Don’t Bring a Knife to a Gunfight, Ballroom B
Moderator: William Parrish; Panelists: William Parrish, D.L Solum

This panel is intended to serve as a brief overview of firearms and their general function. It is not intended to replace good old fashioned personal research and better yet, actual hands on training with a firearm. This panel will give info and advice on how to present characters using firearms realistically, how that differs from Hollywood, basic techniques and practices, common errors in film and writing, and more.
